Surveillance Security Camera Nonogram (20×20)

This is the Surveillance Security Camera nonogram — a 20×20 picture logic puzzle. Use the number clues beside each row and column to work out which squares are filled, and the picture appears as you go. Every square can be deduced; you never have to guess.

How this board opens

A first sweep of the overlap rule down the rows and across the columns settles 191 of the 400 cells, about 48%, which is enough of a skeleton to work outwards from. The most generous opening is row 1, which gives up 20 cells on its own. 10 of the 40 lines are decided outright by their clues, with no room to slide. From there the board finishes on row-and-column logic alone — there is no point where you have to try a cell both ways and see which one breaks. The finished picture fills 99 cells, and the longest unbroken run anywhere in the clues is 8.

About this category

Two related shelves sharing one room. On one side are instruments — a harp, an accordion, a marimba, a leather drum, panpipes, a flute, a tambourine, a piano keyboard, a sheet of notation and a single quaver. On the other is the gear that captures and plays things back: a clapperboard, a film reel, a television, a webcam, a security camera, a loudspeaker, a set of VU meters. The two halves look unrelated until you solve a few and notice they fail in the same way.
