How this board opens
This one opens itself. One sweep of the overlap rule — every row read against its clue lengths, then every column — is worth 288 of the 400 cells, 72% of the board, before you have deduced anything of your own. The most generous opening is row 1, which gives up 20 cells on its own. 8 of the 40 lines are decided outright by their clues, with no room to slide. From there the board finishes on row-and-column logic alone — there is no point where you have to try a cell both ways and see which one breaks. The finished picture fills 158 cells, and the longest unbroken run anywhere in the clues is 16.
