Football Rugby Helmet Nonogram (15×15)

This is the Football Rugby Helmet nonogram — a 15×15 picture logic puzzle. Use the number clues beside each row and column to work out which squares are filled, and the picture appears as you go. Every square can be deduced; you never have to guess.

How this board opens

A first sweep of the overlap rule down the rows and across the columns settles 68 of the 225 cells, about 30%, which is enough of a skeleton to work outwards from. The most generous opening is row 1, which gives up 15 cells on its own. 4 of the 30 lines are decided outright by their clues, with no room to slide. From there the board finishes on row-and-column logic alone — there is no point where you have to try a cell both ways and see which one breaks. The finished picture fills 66 cells, and the longest unbroken run anywhere in the clues is 8.

About this category

The smallest of the newer shelves and the most mixed. Some of it is the equipment: a baseball, a bowling ball and its pins, a rugby helmet, a kettlebell, a bicycle, a ski, a karate belt. The rest is what happens afterwards — a trophy, a medal, a chequered finish, and the numbered places on a podium. Worth knowing before you browse, because a fair part of the shelf is awards rather than sport, and if you came for equipment specifically there is less here than the label suggests.
