Spider Nonogram (15×15)

This is the Spider nonogram — a 15×15 picture logic puzzle. Use the number clues beside each row and column to work out which squares are filled, and the picture appears as you go. Every square can be deduced; you never have to guess.

How this board opens

A first sweep of the overlap rule down the rows and across the columns settles 127 of the 225 cells, about 56%, which is enough of a skeleton to work outwards from. The most generous opening is row 1, which gives up 15 cells on its own. 6 of the 30 lines are decided outright by their clues, with no room to slide. Straight line logic carries it to 217 cells and then stalls, so the last 8 need cross-referencing between a row and a column that share a cell. The finished picture fills 75 cells, and the longest unbroken run anywhere in the clues is 11.

About this category

This is the vocabulary of a game interface rather than the furniture of a fantasy novel: breastplates and shoulder guards, a dagger and a combat knife, a wand with an orb at its tip, a potion, a trebuchet, a troll, a spider, and the small abstract badges a game uses to tell you that something has happened — an achievement rank, a skull counting kills, a stack of gold. Some of it is medieval and some of it is modern, because the icon sets these come from cover whatever a game might need to put in a corner of the screen.
