How this board opens
A first sweep of the overlap rule down the rows and across the columns settles 126 of the 400 cells, about 32%, which is enough of a skeleton to work outwards from. The most generous opening is column 10, which gives up 14 cells on its own. Straight line logic carries it to 180 cells and then stalls, so the last 220 need cross-referencing between a row and a column that share a cell. The finished picture fills 172 cells, and the longest unbroken run anywhere in the clues is 18.
About this category
Mugs, umbrellas, light bulbs, scissors — everyday objects has the most varied dimensions of any category on the site: eight distinct grid shapes, from a 5×5 and the catalog's only 5×15 board right up to 15×20 and 20×20. Nothing else here covers that much ground, which makes it the natural category to browse when you want a particular size rather than a particular theme.
