Bell Nonogram (10×10)

This is the Bell nonogram — a 10×10 picture logic puzzle. Use the number clues beside each row and column to work out which squares are filled, and the picture appears as you go. Every square can be deduced; you never have to guess.

How this board opens

A first sweep of the overlap rule down the rows and across the columns settles 44 of the 100 cells, about 44%, which is enough of a skeleton to work outwards from. The most generous opening is row 8, which gives up 10 cells on its own. One of the 20 lines is decided outright by its clue, with no room to slide. Straight line logic carries it to 92 cells and then stalls, so the last 8 need cross-referencing between a row and a column that share a cell. The finished picture fills 32 cells, and one run in the clues is 10 long — near enough the full span of a line that it fixes itself the moment you reach it.

About this category

Mugs, umbrellas, light bulbs, scissors — everyday objects has the most varied dimensions of any category on the site: eight distinct grid shapes, from a 5×5 and the catalog's only 5×15 board right up to 15×20 and 20×20. Nothing else here covers that much ground, which makes it the natural category to browse when you want a particular size rather than a particular theme.
